Universities across Australia have launched investigations after a controversial online exam tool was hacked and the personal records of students were stolen and leaked on the internet.

ProctorU is an online tool that allows students to be remotely supervised while taking exams at home during the coronavirus crisis.

ProctorU's privacy policy states that it"does not use any test-taker's personal information for any purpose other than for facilitating the proctoring of online exams".However, ProctorU's privacy policy also acknowledges that data may be transfered to a third party in the"event of a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization, or similar transaction".

A University of Melbourne spokesperson characterised the hack as a"cyber-security issue", while Swinburne University said it was investigating a"data breach from a third-party provider".

Told you universities are detrimental

back in the 1990s, adults would tell children not to put their real name on the internet because it could be used against you. now, 25 years later, the EXACT SAME PEOPLE are surprised when people use their real names on the internet and this stuff happens. go figure.

this is the problem with using 3rd parties

'Slowdown' in product distribution to impact consumers | Sky News AustraliaAustralian Food and Grocery Council Acting CEO Dr Geoffrey Annison says there are concerns government restrictions on manufacturers due to the coronavirus crisis in Victoria might impact Australian consumers along the chain. \n\nConcerns have mounted over possible supply shortages in supermarkets due to coronavirus induced travel restrictions and limits on workplaces and warehouses. \n\n“What might not be appreciated is that if we have any slowdown of products moving out of the warehouses then obviously we have to also slow down product upstream in the manufacturing sectors,” he told Sky News. \n\n“We appreciate strongly the government’s desire to suppress the transmission of this virus but it is important that we get these products that everyday Australians, and particularly Victorians, at this time need to get from the supermarkets.” \n\nMr Annison said it was “problematic and maybe unnecessary” for the government to impose a “blanket requirement” across parts of the supply chain which will see workers allowed on site reduced by a third. \n\nHe said the group supported the government’s efforts “to reduce transmission across the community but we just think we can nuance some of this response and still remain an effective suppression of the virus in the food production and supply chain”. \n\n“What we’d like [the government] to do is recognise that the distribution centres, as well as other parts of the supply chain, have sophisticated COVID-safe plans already which go to staff management and how they interact on site,” he said. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia You mean shutting everything down for a virus that kills the elderly is going to hurt us? Shocking... 🙄 This is self inflicted, we may be an island but internet exists. Surely people can see that lock downs don't work, they just move the problem down the road. How about we protect the vulnerable, which we are not doing, and the rest of us get on? Watch the shelves empty guicker than you can say toilet paper.

International students pressure universities to lower marking standards | Sky News AustraliaReports suggesting Australian universities are lowering academic standards to allow overseas students to pass courses, have driven UNSW Economics Professor Gigi Foster to call for an overhaul to tertiary admissions processes.\n\nHer comment follows alleged attacks from organised networks of international students making coordinated attacks against university staff members whose assignments and examinations proved too difficult to pass. \n\nThe University of Sydney confirmed it received 135 formal complaints about staff regarding coursework or assessments last year.\n\nAccording to Ms Foster, “you would expect given the economic circumstances of this dependence on foreign students for fee revenue, that there might indeed be a problem in terms of the admissions standards not being equivalent”.\n\nShe cited a paper published in 2012 which examined whether international students were performing equivalently to domestic students and showed “international students do perform worse on average … than domestic students, and there are negative learning effects in tutorials”.\n\n“I also found some evidence of inflation of grades as a consequence of larger fractions of lesser prepared students being enrolled in courses,” Ms Foster told Sky News. \n\nShe said the Commonwealth government should require universities to submit data showing international students had achieved an equivalent level of academic achievement to domestic students as a precondition for funding. \n 'Reports' turns out there is no report but a single study from 2012. Sounds like Gigi is talking out her arse again. In all Western civilised societies for 10 years, the dumbing-down of populations. Not a ConspiracyTheory. Ask yourselves why do 'overseas' students need this? Is it BLM BS? Why should we suffer for dumb-dumbs not used to an advanced country? Kids apologising for privilege? NO You have to operate to the standard n strength of the weakest link ?
