While Australia has healthcare agreements with 11 other countries that mean you can access their health systems for free, there are some issues to be aware of.

In several of those countries the health system is underfunded and overburdenedFree healthcare when you travel? Sounds too good to be true, but in some of our favourite countries it’s a fact.with 11 countries that allow Australians with a Medicare card to be treated under those countries’ publicly funded medical care systems. The list includes the UK, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Malta, Norway, Ireland, Slovenia and Sweden.

In New Zealand you’re covered for hospital care, maternity services and for some of the cost of medicines prescribed by a GP, but not care from a GP or other primary care or ambulance travel.British Medical Journal “We don’t see visitors,” said the receptionist when she rang to make an appointment.
