Australian exports to China increased by $2.6 billion despite a collapse in diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Australian exports to China have surged past expectations as trade with the rest of the world falls, adding an extra $2.6 billion despite the diplomatic rift between the two countries.

The trade surge also occurred as China implemented trade strikes on Australian beef, barley, tourism and higher education. “Despite the ongoing domestic and international challenges, Australian exporters across a range of sectors like resources, agriculture and advanced manufacturing continue to withstand global economic shocks and remain highly sought after in our key markets,” Senator Birmingham said.

China launched trade strikes on $1 billion worth of Australian beef and barley in April and has urged students and tourists to reconsider travelling to Australia. Australian cotton growers have also been caught short after the collapse of aand producers up to $20 million out of pocket.
