Australian table-tennis star Yangzi Liu has been banned from the Paris Olympics . In fact, the 22-year-old has been banned from Paris and the Los Angeles Games in 2028 due to an unusual International Table Tennis Federation law. Liu is without a doubt a genuine medal hope. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, she became the first Australian to win a medal in the women’s singles event. And this year he world ranking climbed to 25.

Liu also became an Australian citizen after her eighteenth birthday. And she only officially became an Australian table-tennis player in 2022. If she had been under the age 18 when registered by the ITTF, she would have not have received the Olympic and World Championship suspension. She is now on a ITTF waiting list to have her new nationality rubberstamped but, unless something radically changes, she will be waiting for seven years.
