ANALYSIS: Australian sides kicking their way to better rugby

Only a few seasons ago, the state of goalkicking in Australian rugby made for sobering reading.

The player who replaced him, Christian Leali'ifano, was just shy of 77 per cent for the tournament, kicking 10 from 13 attempts. And it worked; in 2019, hooker Folau Fainga'a was the Brumbies' leading try-scorer with 12, the vast majority of them at the back of the lineout drive. Pre-COVID, things were no better at the start of the 2020 season, with the Brumbies, Rebels, Reds and Waratahs collectively averaging just 68 per cent over seven rounds of the old Super Rugby competition before it was suspended.
