Australian journalists need more protection against assaults: report l michaelfowler08

The 19-year-old was charged with assault and intimidation and will appear in court on May 16.for restricting journalists' investigations and reporting. The laws let police and other agencies extract information from private messaging systems such as Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger. The report blames the laws for Australia's slide to 21st in the World Press Freedom Index, below Suriname and Uruguay.

"Australia urgently needs a formal restraint on our legislators to keep them from passing laws that continually chip away at the space for journalists to work in," said Mr Greste, a former Al Jazeera journalist who was jailed in Cairo in 2013The report calls for a Media Freedom Act in Australia to protect the freedom of the press, with an emphasis on an an "appropriate balance in national security legislation".

Other recommendations include enhancing protection for whistleblowers, protecting journalists' confidential data and improving transparency on defamation and suppression orders.

michaelfowler08 Australian public need protection against media fake narratives. Still hounding Donald Trump 24/7.

michaelfowler08 Bunk. There are perfectly adequate laws re assault etc. Journalists need no 'extra' protection

michaelfowler08 Get a real story perhaps ABC News 6pm Bulletin reports Wedding held in Queensland Correctional Centre. Is this true? Where are the photos? Should these be allowed? Who allowed this? Is it part of their Job Description? Qld Labor Mark RYAN reported does not approve? Not invited?

michaelfowler08 Like julian

michaelfowler08 There are already adequate laws why do you need more?

michaelfowler08 The problem is that some journalists cause or aggravate the situation, when they should be giving reasonable space.

michaelfowler08 I get it. So do school kids against bullies.
