The Australian government has been accused of forcibly separating parents from their children because they are refugees who sought asylum by boat, potentially in violation of international law.

The HRLC says one method the government denies permanent residents who arrived by boat from reuniting with their families is by “endlessly deprioritising” their visa applications.

While Hassan is now a permanent resident, he says his application was always at the bottom of the pile because he sought asylum by boat. “My kids cannot go back to Afghanistan because it is unsafe. They are living alone as illegal refugees with no hope for the future in Pakistan. And I can’t bring them here. This is very painful to understand and explain to them, but this is my current situation,” he says in the report.

Dutton needs a taste of his own medicine.

Trumpism is rampant in this gov't.

So they thought they could get way with paying for just one expensive people smuggler boat trip and then fly the rest of the family in on a family reunion visa.

Trumpism

You sick Aust vassal govt. Do you even like what you are turning into?

Board Australia via legal ways please. We all need to obey the law, which is the bottom of freedom

Chief medical officer says he didn't advise fines, jail terms for Australians returning from IndiaThe federal chief medical officer says health authorities gave no advice to impose fines and jail sentences for Australians in India who attempt to breach the temporary travel ban. Of course they didn't, just a perfect way for the Government not to take accountability for their own decisions... which in fact, shows that they know it's WRONG. Our government lying? Surely not Sounds like a Dutton, Morrison and Puzzullo decision that Morrison took to the Cabinet, with a 'yes boss anything you say boss' chorus from the rest of the Cabinet. I couldn't see the Prime Minister for Women doing much to contest this and the AG is too busy warming her seat.

Separated from family, Indian Australians are feeling the painOpinion: I learnt about the government’s plans to fine or jail returning travellers from COVID-riddled India through my family’s WhatsApp group. To understand how my family are processing the announcement, you have to understand who we are and where we’... I feel very sorry for the people in India but I don’t want the horror to be exported here because some people feel offended or disenfranchised or whatever. It's time for people to understand just how much local businesses have lost as a result of an overseas traveller bringing back covid and starting an outbreak. Millions of Australians, billions of dollars....why is this never a consideration? They are just as vulnerable.

The rage and sorrow of Indian AustraliansThe escalating coronavirus crisis in India is causing heartbreak for many Australian families. Morrison wants to criminalise Aussie’s trying to return home because he hasn’t built quarantine facilities They are ALL vulnerable! I can't imagine leaving my children in a foreign country to be brought up by their grandparents just so I could avoid child care costs to they were school age. And then to expect the govt to bring them to me for free because I refused to go and pick them up myself.
