Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions continued to decline at the end of 2020 as an acceleration of the decarbonisation of the electricity sector outweighed a revival of pollution from transport and industry, according to analysis by consultants.

The on-going drop in emissions from coal-fired power plants has been propelling lower carbon pollution across the economy.Victoria and NSW easily beat their previous record share of renewable energy as households added roof-top solar systems and new solar and wind projects came on stream. A mild start to summer also trimmed power demand, sending electricity sector emissions to their lowest in at least two decades.

A spokesman for Energy Minister Angus Taylor said the government “won’t pre-empt” the release of official data which for the December quarter must be released by the end of May.Ndevr’s year-end estimates also provide a mixed picture of the state of Australia’s post-COVID recovery. For all of 2020, emissions totalled 504.3 MtCO2-e, or almost 5 per cent or 26.3 MtCO2-e less than 2019’s level.

Australia has spent $60B+ to cut CO2 emission & WE have nearly the same amount of C02 in the atmosphere, = 0.0.4 degrees We could have spent the $60 billion on Nuclear Power with near zero C02 emissions
