Australian bitcoin mogul Greg Dwyer has agreed to be extradited to the US and plans to fight the charges after initially refusing requests by authorities to surrender to face criminal charges over the BitMEX cryptocurrency exchange bitcoin cryptocurrency

can reveal that Mr Dwyer’s case could be heard separately from his co-accused given the time it has taken to negotiate his return to the US. A trial date has been set for late March.

Mr Delo’s lawyer, Patrick Smith, told the court at a hearing earlier this year that it would be unfair to Mr Dwyer and to the other defendants if Mr Dwyer joined the case too late. “We could sever him out of the case right now or set a tight timeline that if he’s not in the case by a certain date - let’s say, four weeks out – then a severance should follow that,” Mr Smith said. But US District Judge John Koeltl said that issue would be considered after Mr Dwyer joined the case and would depend on what Mr Dwyer wanted to do.
