England, suffering a serious case of post-World Cup blues, were bowled out for 67 in their first innings – their lowest total in the Ashes since 1948.

With Paine’s men only needing to win one of the last three Tests to hold onto the urn for the first time in England since 2001, they are now in prime position to complete that task in Yorkshire despite their best batsman being sidelined with concussion here.

Hazlewood, bowling an immaculate line and length, had earlier rocked the England top order for the second time in two matches and wound up with 5-30 while similarly impressive Cummins and Pattinson also got in on the action as the series was turned on its head in the space of two hours. The trio were bowling alongside each other for the first time in a Test match and it was some debut.
