Australia will need to vaccinate 80 per cent of the total population before it can move away from harsh restrictions and lockdowns, new modelling shows | rachelclun

Australia can ease restrictions and end lockdowns when 80 per cent of the entire population has been vaccinated, modelling shows, a target that could be reached by the end of the year if children under the age of 12 are included in the rollout.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Australians can expect a straight answer on what vaccine rates the country and each state and territory will need to reach before moving on to phase two of the four-stage transition to a COVID-normal, but national cabinet won’t have that answer on Friday. “What we’re trying to do is minimise hospitalisations and deaths,” he said, adding he expects national cabinet to largely accept that 80 per cent target.

Dr Duckett said the higher the vaccination rate the better, but a target of 80 per cent coverage was achievable, provided an acceptable level of safety and allowed people to look forward to the certainty of fewer lockdowns and restrictions.

rachelclun Wouldn't bet on it with this pathetic government

rachelclun Didn’t we hear “by Christmas” earlier today? Which is it? Yet another LNP screwup

rachelclun See you everyone in 2023!

rachelclun Not with the tin hat anti vaxxers

rachelclun Better to just name the date of Freedom Day and let people make their choices accordingly. 31/12/21 would give everyone something to aim for? auspoI COVID19Aus

rachelclun Well that’s a very high bar to set for one of the worlds lowest jumpers

rachelclun There literally isn't a single country in the world with a vaccination rate this high. They're either living in a fantasy world or they plan on continuing a totalitarian expansion of government.

rachelclun Not possible, at least 30% are anti-vaxxers in Oz.

rachelclun What. Excluded Northern NSW. And Avalon.

rachelclun Looking forward to Vax Gangs roaming the suburbs pulling Pete Evans style Anti-Vaxxers out of their houses to vaccinate them when we get stuck at 76% in December 2023.

rachelclun Nearly a year behind everyone else ScottMorrisonMP LiberalAus - what a shitshow.

rachelclun 🙄🙄🙄 as if (wrt all of your statement parts)

rachelclun never ever going to happen

rachelclun Or what? More 90 year olds will die?

rachelclun Doubt we will ever get to 80% so we are done.

rachelclun 3.62 million Australians are vaccinated as of today. We're almost at the March milestone.

rachelclun Will fail my doctor told me don't bother they are lemon vaccines

rachelclun how ? they are redirecting vaccines away from regional areas because of shortage ...sick and tired of hearing this bullshit.....

rachelclun Well, guess I'm in the twenty percent.

rachelclun Glad to say I have had had 2 AZ injections. I want to know when a booster is needed. To keep high rates of vaccination early adopters will have to be jabbed again.

rachelclun Can we stop getting modelling from communist academics, Gates/NWO shrills or the bought NWO politburo

rachelclun Complete crap! We won’t get to 80%! And if we do, early people will need boosters! UK and USA are opening up much lower than 80% and it’s working! Political suicide if we are locked down with 60% of audits vaccinated. Think we saw protests last week… then there be carnage!!

rachelclun We could have achieved this if Morrison hadn’t stuffed up the supply or vaccine being supplied to Australia.

rachelclun SMH calculator says current level will get us to 60% by January

rachelclun So this is the magic number to stave off Morrison's assassination by the FBI

rachelclun Surely 'Phase 2' which is still a very conservative setting can be at a much lower rate than this? This should be the stretch target for Phase 4 I would think. As others have said though it may never be achievable.

rachelclun They'll probably be tempted to let it rip at 40% vaccination

rachelclun New? It’s been discussed to death in Europe. Is anyone talking with each other? It’s almost like we need a Worldwide Health Organisation which we could fund to coordinate knowledge, vaccines, measures

rachelclun I thought Morrison said end of this year?

rachelclun Aus will never achieve this, the country is heaving with anti-vaxxers. What a shambles.

rachelclun But 100% of athletes & officials have been vaccinated & there is a lockdown at the Olympics.

rachelclun We can get to 80% vaccinated. Just start using vax passports as a prerequisite for air travel, major sporting events, concerts, etc. It’d be fair enough and great incentive. That’s if the risk of dying doesn’t scare people enough to vax anyway.

rachelclun We will never get there, so we better have a Plan B.

rachelclun Total population = including children & infants?

rachelclun 🤡💉💉🔮 🎲🎲 👪👨‍👩‍👧👨‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👩‍👦‍👦👨‍👩‍👧‍👧....🎁....💔....☠️.....👻👻👻👻👻👻👻

rachelclun With the ScottMorrisonMP and GladysB show, that would be 80% of Sydney and let it rip.

rachelclun Having to vaccinate 80% is not going to happen this year so why not just get the lock down and quarantine working NOW

rachelclun I hope Australia will reopen its boarders before the Olympic Games 2032

rachelclun Otherwise vaccine bigpharmas will not pay ScottMorrisonMP , their chief sales rep in the Downunder.

rachelclun Why do the rest of us have to wait until we hit 80%? Give people w few months then let us vaccinated people free .

rachelclun 80% of total population is roughly 100% of the population over 16. Very hard to imagine we are going to get to that level - there aren't many countries of scale that have managed this level of vaccination

Bipartisan leadership needed to quell anti-lockdown sentiment, experts warnAcademics say a lack of bipartisan leadership has contributed to anti-lockdown and anti-vaccination sentiment, urging politicians to present a united front and treat protesters with empathy to curb their dissatisfaction. She might try getting some better advisors and forget about the vaccinations...........? It’s the greatest challenge to Australian leadership our democracy and the majority - it’s pure anarchy to challenge not just laws or enforcement- but health in pandemic- crushing them is paramount to continued order - if we see mass gatherings faith will die- use massive force When you have the likes of George Christensen encouraging people to to disobey public health orders, it's little wonder Labor is being called on to fill the leadership void. SA records no new COVID-19 cases on first day since emerging from lockdownSouth Australia has reported no new coronavirus cases on its first day out of lockdown, which ended at midnight. Why doesn't Gladys use SA as an example to go by, seeing as following the success of Labor states is too damaging to her ego? I have some fear that there's some feral bogan anti-vaxxer sitting at home with COVID who is going to go on an infection spree. We only emerged from lockdown 12 hours ago. Are you foretelling the future?

WA has the worst vaccination rate among states for aged care workers, and the deadline is loomingLess than a quarter of Western Australia's residential aged care workforce is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, sparking fears of staff shortages when inoculation becomes mandatory in mid-September. Those numbers are terrible, it's not that hard to get vaccinated. I have been. I dont blame them but there has to be a line in the sand. The industry is an awful place to work for those at bottom of food chain ( the majority ) Insulting pay, unpleasant unforgiving work, casual contracts etc. Where's the incentive
