PNG is experiencing a COVID ‘health catastrophe’ and Australia needs to help | Sky News AustraliaExecutive Director of Micah Australia Tim Costello says Papua New Guinea is experiencing a “health catastrophe” as one in three residents test positive for COVID-19. \n\n“This is a health catastrophe and already has run away and no longer can Australians say … the vaccines are only for us,” he said. \n\n“This is really now a domestic issue because so many people have come into Cairns hospital which is on orange alert from PNG with COVID.'\n\nMr Costello pointed to the close proximity of the two nations, saying 'this really is now our issue and we must step up with vaccine and testing kits is not only right for PNG, but it is right to protect ourselves”.\n\nHe told Sky News PNG’s “fragile” heath system is suffering a deficiency of testing kits and ICU ventilators and Australia needs to help out, particularly with vaccines. \n\n“The truth is that young healthy Australians getting the vaccine when frontline workers in PNG and so many others there can't get the vaccine just doesn’t make moral sense,' he said. \n\n“The truth is most Australians do not begrudge helping our neighbours … when we are largely still safe.' \n One in three test positive? A pawpaw and a goat have also tested positive for covert-19. How many of those testing positive are symptomatic? If 20 people turned up to Cairns Hospital it would put them on orange alert. It's not a very large hospital. Health catastrophe? Yawn
