The true damage of the pandemic was highlighted this week and it is clear that Australia has never been more divided.

We’re not and we never were. Everyone just took their own preconceived politics, not to mention their own privilege, and went their own way.People simply made up their own rules — from imposing unnecessary restrictions at schools, childcare centres and businesses to refusing to wear a mask or get the jab. Premiers fought with prime ministers and sometimes their own ministers. Even epidemiologists were divided amongst themselves.

Despite sizeable majorities consistently supporting January 26, it is difficult to see how our national day will ever be able to shake off the spectre of toxicity that now haunts it each year. And perhaps national unity is simply a thing of the past. With the endless fracturing and sub-fracturing of media and communication, with opinions now outweighing facts and every person now able to publicly express a different one, the idea of any kind of national cohesion might soon seem a very old fashioned one.

And of course it would then raise the question of whether we also change the flag and/or become a republic,And so let us say that we changed the date, changed the flag and became a republic. Would that make those calling for it suddenly more proud and patriotic?

Well, the Murdoch media, the LNp, the UA) and PHON have all been instrumental in dividing the nation for personal gain

Well said

Well the division is caused by all the lies from our current governments. There wouldn’t be a division if what they were doing was right. Once the rest of Australia realises this then the division will be no more and neither will this coward government

Joe is a small man, with a small mind, and zero insight. He looks out, never in, and sees a world distorted by his own prejudice. If hypocrisy had a name, it would be Joe Hildebrand.

The 'greatest lie' being told is this Pandemic is over. Politicians are constantly talking like everything is OK. It is not. What is the acceptable death plateau? The 'second best' lie is, Australia is a harmonious society & we are all equal & in this together.

Greatest lie? Is that the one where someone has asserted that a Joe Hildebrand article is worth reading?

Soon as i opened article saw Hitlerbrand was the author closed it.

This is divisive. This story is trying to frighten people who fear they have something to lose.

Where is your prosecution of the endless lies and corruption?

Where is your prosecution of the Colbeck story?

The irony of such an article, headlined to reinforce division and uncertainty.

Pandemic don't divide , bad unprincipled governments cause disunity . If anything crisis had always united a nation ,until the Lousy Nasty Party comes along.

was one of the major players in all the scamdemic BS.

Coming from newscorpaus, the prime catalyst of said division.

Do you think your terrible dividing dribble has anything to do with that ?... is not news. It's the Newidea for the internet.
