Not only can this home withstand bushfire attack, but powering its appliances, lights, and heating and cooling costs as little as a daily cup of coffee.

The display home in New South Wales' Blue Mountains region has a complex system of remotely controlled electric shutters, fire resistant external cladding and fluid ventilation, balancing energy efficiency with strict fire safety standards.

Proper sealing, insulation, and mechanical ventilation keep passive homes warm in winter and cool in summer "So [it costs] $3.80 to run this house a day without solar. We've actually put solar on this house so that we can achieve carbon-zero," he said.

shame nobody can afford houses anymore

Brilliant! So why the hell are we still building massed produced crappy houses that are facing anywhere but north and are a fire hazard? These type of houses should be implemented by law! no more crap suburbs.

Fantastic, all homes should be like this - the energy savings are huge.

Good to see this being done, even if it is decades later than it should have been. The fireproofing and passive design features that is.
