Foreign Affairs minister Penny Wong has announced Australia will no longer recognise West Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.
Mr Morrison followed the decision of United States president Donald Trump, who made the formal announcement in 2017 and relocated the US embassy from Tel Aviv to West Jerusalem.Senator Wong said Labor was remaining firm in its view expressed in 2018 that Jerusalem remains a "final status issue" that must be resolved between the Palestinian territories and Israel.
"We are committed to international efforts in a responsible progress, responsible issue of progress towards a just and enduring two-state solution," she said.Senator Wong acknowledged that the decision made by Mr Morrison was "out of step with the majority of the international community".

Jerusalem has been the capital of Israel for 74 years and nothing will change that. Trying to tell Israel that it's not their capital is no different from China telling us that they don't recognise Canberra as our capital. Reversing this position will just fuel the conflict more.
Good on you and the Labor government. Playing domestic politics without care for the geopolitical ramifications is disingenuous and dangerous. But that was the modus operandi of Morrison and his ilk in the Coalition.
Good. It's the unilateral claiming of territory and it's recognition by others that emboldens states, such as Russia's annexation of Crimea and subsequent war on Ukraine. Just because you say it's yours doesn't make it so or right.
