Australia restores funding to UN Palestinian relief agency after two-month pause over organisation's alleged links to Hamas
"Australia has been working with a group of donor countries and with UNRWA, on the shared objective of ensuring the integrity of UNRWA's operations, rebuilding confidence, and so importantly ensuring aid flows to Gazans in desperate need." Accusations of UNRWA's links with Hamas arose in January this year, with a dozen of the agency's staff alleged to have been involved in the October 7 attack on Israel.
She also said Israel had provided"some information" relating to UNRWA while investigations of its terrorism associations were underway, and that this information had guided the decision to un-pause funding.
The UN agency terminated the contracts of all accused Hamas-linked staff members amid global furore, but condemned world leaders for"irresponsibly" pulling their donations when war-ravaged civilians needed it most.
