Australia is set to back Vanuatu’s Pacific Islands Forum push to send climate change inaction to the International Court of Justice, while Kiribati pulled out of the meeting

But concerns remain around the prospect of Australia attempting to water down Vanuatu’s request.

“There has been some concern that Australia was seeking to water down the language,” Newton Cain said. “This is a real challenge, and it’s one where we’re working hard, first, to avoid climate change where we can through our commitment to international action,” he said. “The idea of people leaving their land and the remains of their ancestors and detaching themselves is a very big issue for Pacific communities, and it is one that is viewed with an awful lot of trepidation,” she said. “There is a lot more to it than saying everybody hop on the boat we are going to take you somewhere where you are not going to be swamped by the sea.”Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will arrive at the forum on Wednesday, two days after Kiribati withdrew.

Climate refugees =cheap Labour! Globalisation, all in on it!

An important development. Background here: auspol backtheao

This is so misguided. Doesn't anyone look at the statistics? Sea levels have not risen and average island area has increased, not decreased. If one were a cynic, it's just a wedge to push for increased assistance. China's not worried about its illegal islands

That’s nice. 🇨🇳doesn’t do international rules. What about a plan to support the people & democracy in Solomon’s, prevent the region falling further into 🇨🇳‘s orbit & threatening 🇦🇺?

ErykBagshaw Labor seem to be facing endless 'tests' according to . Deliberate language that frames Labor as a government that has to prove its qualifications. I wish I had the time and resources to go back and see how many 'tests' the coalition faced. ErykBagshaw Spineless Albo May say yes ErykBagshaw Our 1.2% of global emissions are ending the world while China increases their emissions each year by our yearly total and nothing to see.
