Migrant numbers are growing in Australia as the government’s student crackdown starts, winter gas fears for NSW and Victoria and debate about Trump’s comments on Kevin Rudd continue.

As we reported earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported the US Justice Department is weighing whether to allow Julian Assange to plead guilty to a reduced charge of mishandling classified information, creating a path toward the resolution of his legal case. However, a lawyer for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said his legal team saw no indication of a resolution to US charges against him.

Such a deal would potentially allow Assange to enter a plea to the misdemeanour charge remotely, and walk free without travelling to the US, which has been seeking his extradition from the UK for years. The WSJ reported that the US Justice Department is considering whether to allow Assange to plead guilty to a reduced charge of mishandling classified information. The newspaper cited people familiar with the matter.
