ANALYSIS: Australia is treading carefully with its response to China's crackdown on Hong Kong, but what happens next is uncertain

On Thursday Scott Morrison walked out into the Prime Minister’s courtyard and waded into fraught territory.

Mr Morrison announced his Government would offer safe haven to many Hong Kong students and graduates already living in Australia. In the eyes of Australia, these announcements were simply the inevitable consequence of China’s decision to break the promise it made to the United Kingdom decades ago, when it told the departing colonial power it would preserve the city’s liberties for half a century. But if the Prime Minister was trying to be provocative, it didn’t much look like it.

Anytime the CCP doesn’t get what it wants, it claims to have suffered a ‘grave provocation’. It seeks appeasement in the same way that other murderous dictatorships have in the past. Please don’t be silly enough to appease them. It is such a dangerous path to tread. auspoI

The PM screws up a lot, he needs to join with other country's leaders like the UK to deal with this issue. He wants to be the hero, not going to happen Scotty. Governments have allowed Chinese to buy us, properties, ports, businesses, they laugh at us, always did. So why HK ?

Treading carefully!!!! He’s just too scared to upset the murderous Chinese gvt

Between yapping and sabre rattling he’s managed to oversea a complete breakdown in the relationship between Australia and China

The quicker Aus. decouples from trade with China and moves to more trade in stable democratic countries, the better.

Butt out, if Australian govt shows no empathy, for Palestinians suffering at the hands of Zionist Israeli, deprived of all their human rights & dignity in their own land, subjected to Apartheid, Ethnic Cleansing, annexation. Then you don't really care about Hong Kong!

Scomo is absolutely right. Well done

Didn't stop the ABC babbling about it.

Hong Kong should be allowed to become a democracy like America. With 1.3 billion people I'm sure they can find enough loonies for the government.

your policy cost the lives of koala bears life in the bushes of new south Wales 🌋

Why the ethnic Chinese of Hong Kong are disturbed about being real Chinese is a mystery. We, Australian Natives, are expected to be Australians. But we don't even look like white blood Anglo PM ScoMo. Now calling himself Australian PM instead of Anglo Australian PM!

Labor MP says we shouldn't criticise the Chines Govt for no reason 2020 Another Labor MP praises the Chines ‘’leadership‘’

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IS A LOT OF POOR HONG KONGERS WILL BE ARRESTED AND GET 10 TO 20 YEARS IN A CHINESE GULAG.....

auto predict is uncertain, wtf are you talking about? auspol

Qld electoral roll 'at risk' after Labor govt outsources coding role to China | Sky News AustraliaThe Palaszczuk Labor government is being accused of “recklessly causing a security risk by allowing Chinese-based coders to write critical software for the Electoral Commission of Queensland,” according to Sky News host Peta Credlin. \n\nThe outsourcing of coding by the electoral commission “potentially gives China access to the QLD electoral roll, and the ability to manipulate digital information around elections in that state,” she said.\n\nQueensland Liberal MP Fiona Simpson said one of the reasons for the “train smash” reporting of the local election results in Queensland, was because the Chinese-based coders were in lockdown due to the coronavirus crisis in Wuhan.\n\n“It’s a compromise and it risks the security of one of the most critical things which is our elections, she said.\n WTF?! do these people not learn?!?

'China every bit the strategic competitor of the old Soviet Union': Credlin | Sky News AustraliaThe extension of the communist legal system to Hong Kong demonstrates the “hide and bide” tactics applied by China for years are being replaced with overt and aggressive military maneuvers, according to Sky News host Peta Credlin.\n\n“Given the Chinese crackdown on Hong Kong, our government is quite right to suspend the extradition treaty; and to offer all the 10,000 or so Hong Kongers, now here on temporary visas, a five-year extension, with a path to citizenship,” she said.\n\n“It would be dead wrong to send anyone for whom an arrest warrant has been issued, to a place where the government, dictates judicial outcomes”.\n\n“It would be wrong not-to-offer a form of sanctuary to Hong Kongers living here, who don't want to return to a place where the rule of law has been suspended and where dissent against the Chinese government is potentially punishable with life imprisonment”.\n\nMs Credlin said any sustained show of freedom by the Chinese government is “utterly toxic”. \n\n“China is every bit the strategic competitor that the old Soviet Union was from 1945 until 1989 and the fall of the Berlin Wall”.\n\nThe one critical difference is “countries like Australia had never let Russia into our systems, economic, cultural, immigration and more, the way we've let China in,' she said. \n\nImage: Getty Can sky stop with the whole 'According to 'Credlin, Kenny, Panahi, Murray' etc.. China is heading toward 'implosion' because communist regimes 'do not survive' | Sky News AustraliaFormer US Naval Intelligence Officer John Jordan says China’s communist regime is bound to “implode” if it continues to form an aggressive front. \n\nThe government unveiled a plan on Thursday to provide safe access to Hong Kongers fleeing China’s new national security laws which criminalised secession, subversion, terrorism and colluding with other countries. \n\n “Communism, central planning, state-owned power, the autocratic Marxist governments do not survive, they do tend to implode,” Mr Jordan told Sky News. \n\n “Unless China adopts market-oriented policies and embraces freedom, which is also very dangerous to communism, it seems like that is the likely medium-term fate of the regime.” \n\nImage: AP They don’t know any other way Not if the West implodes first You know articles like this one are fake, fabricated stories, when uses US and intelligence on the same line....
