Sky News host Paul Murray says it is important Australians realise the nation has gone into recession not because something is structurally wrong with the Australian economy, but simply because of lockdowns.

Australia’s economy is officially in recession after the June quarter data revealed the country’s GDP had shrunk by seven per cent due to the COVID crisis, representing an annual decline of 6.3 per cent.

“We need to understand that there is nothing structurally wrong with the Australian economy, we are in recession tonight because of lockdowns,” Mr Murray said. “It’s the COVID lockdown recession. “You can have the debate about whether it’s the recession we had to have or we could have avoided.” Image: News Corp Australia

Tell the truth!

that Paul Murray - he’s a genius.. these pearls of bleedingly obvious to a national audience of 23 he’s such an irrelevant

Has Australia gone into recession? The science is inconclusive.

Australia was heading into recession well before bushfires and lockdowns. Australia is in recession due to government incompetence. The very same government supports.

Gee is Paul an economist ? or just the usual right wing fuckwit

No-one heard of the Covid 19.

We'd be in deeper if Bill'd got in and dithered.

It was the worst Xmas retail I had ever seen in my retail life. 2019 was the first time I really saw ppl spending less, they were feeling the pinch of a bad year. That was well before lockdown. And before Xmas, social events/gifting/splurging had also gone down.

Paul Murray? One of the World's pre-eminent economists & respected epidemiologist? ThatPaul Murray? Or the Murdoch hack?

Is Paul Murray an economist?

Is he talking about the closing of international borders by slipperyscotty ? Or the early restrictions implemented by the fed govt, ahead of jobkeeper and jobseeker - which resulted in the shutting down of businesses Australia wide ? Or is he laying blame on DanielAndrewsMP

The economy was tanking before COVID, with triple the debt left by Labor.

Pauly Murray now the economist. So skilled.

Covid policy has kicked the stuffing out of already struggling Australian economy. Recession, no travel, loss of jobs, business shutdowns, suicides. Long term $800 billion cost predicted. Explain that to your family.

twawki2

What in the FARK does Paul Murray know, in fact Sky in general? So let me get this straight, Paul Murray is reporting (use the term loosely) a fact any Australian didn’t know?

GoldCoastNurse And we are in lockdown because.....? Think it through... I'll wait.

GoldCoastNurse Bullshit. We were headed their anyway.

Let’s open everything up so the peasants, can get sick and die, like USA. Who will subscribe to Fox News? I doubt paid up members of LNP will be a large enough audience.

Hoooooo boy, now that’s some BULLSHIT 🤦🏻‍♀️

Before Covid were going into recession .

Thanks for the laugh 🤭

Ask paul why we were in the pooh before the virus.

But Paul Murray is phuck knuckle. What qualifications does he have on economic subjects ?

Lockdowns have had their effect... obviously... but the govt knew what was coming from the start of this year... and just throwing $300b of cash at the economy was never going to be enough. They were asked to stimulate to create jobs last & didn't. Same this year. Create jobs ffs

When, of course, the complete reverse is the truth. I object to you having the word 'News' in your styling. At least show a little honesty and change it to 'Propaganda' or 'Whatever Shit Rupert Wants.'

Utter Bollocks JoshFrydenberg AUSPOL

BULLSHIT!!!

One positive by-product is that the 5G towers built into the light poles in some parts of the CBD will adversely affect fewer people.

Paul Murray needs to lay off the lsd

This tweet unequivocally proves “Sky News” is a misnomer. It is not a news outlet rather a platform for conservative opionistas who moonlight as coaches per this from cigar-chomping king-bogan Murray. Good at telling people how he thinks and how they should think also.

Murray begging us to blame anybody but the LNP. That shit might stick with idiots on Facebook - not here.

Nice try Paul.

Could Paul Murray list his economic background? Australia has been in recession since 2019.

Paul MURRAY? 😂😂😂😂

Absolute fucking bullshit!

Paul Murray is incorrect. We've been in a GDP per capita recession for a few quarters now, something is structurally wrong with the Australian economy. Successive announcements from the RBA have indicated this, it just hasn't been a priority for the LNP.

Paul Murray is

skynews State of Disaster and State Emergency laws must be amended to allow Human Rights

I also think it is important to note that Paul Murray is neither an economist nor a medical professional

'- Sky News at night is a Liberal echo chamber' Paul Murray 2018 scrotes3 “He said that?” ShaughnessyMat “He did, hot mic between promos on his show and Sky accidentally uploaded it to the podcast.”

Hang on, we were on the brink of this back in Feb anyway.. Paul needs to do some more fact checking (again)..

how was our debt and growth tracking pre covid ?

Oh great sky news I have realised something about this and I Thankyou most sincerely for helping me realise the error of my independent thought that the economy was tanking well before lockdowns which was the proverbial straw

What a load of Bull! Even for Sky I didn't think you could come up with this crap.

CORRECTION: Australia is in a recession because of CHINA

The number of death cited daily by Dan Andrews were to 90+% at the age of 60+ Years und all have died FROM the Corana Virus with no comorbitity factors contributing? If there was a $ incentive for each death reported, then the lockdown is more than questionable, i.e. a fraud.

Lockdowns driven by Premiers for their own election self interest.

because of neo Marxist state premieres

Well it could be worse. We could be in recession because of rampant COVID-19 causing people to refuse to go to work or leave home because they don’t feel safe and because they’re busy burying COVID-19 victims in their family.

Everything is closed except for food shops and banks in Melb. Even if they were open 'you're not allowed to go out except for 4 reasons'. Casual shopping not one of them. How does Labor expect stimulus to work when people are locked down? Just buy stuff on eBay?

What utter tripe..! Who is this idiot? Every major metric was indicating Australia in recession by 2021. CV19 simply accelerated the process... and the average jo’s stupidity handed the government the excuse needed to speed up already planned draconian policy implementation!

sazi_ana In other words, the politicians drove the economy into the outback and shot it in the head so they couldn't be held liable for any imaginary deaths.

The economy was going down before the plague.

What absolute CRAP!

First recession in over 30 years doesn’t matter how munch the Murdoch morons moan it has happened under the Morrison LNP Government

A lot of countries have announced they're in recession. The whole world agreed they wouldn't let coronavirus kill millions more people.

Exactly, recessions occur due to failed policy. What we have her should correctly be termed a medical induced recession. Yep, pollies acting on unelected CHO idiots!

Just let the international students in! Literally every other country has learnt to do it. Get with the times. Learn to empathise.

The Liberal party deficit The liberal party recession Lol
