France has restored “a degree of trust” with the US after Canberra cancelled a multibillion-dollar submarine deal, but the same cannot be said for Australia, says France’s ambassador for the Indo-Pacific

Paris briefly recalled its ambassadors from Australia and the United States in protest.

A flurry of diplomatic contact with Washington resulted in an acknowledgement by US President Joe Biden that the deal’s announcement “was not handled in a graceful way”.“We think that we have restored a degree of trust, mutual trust with our American ally,” Penot said.“I don’t think we have the same perception of how and why this happened,” Penot said. “So it is difficult to make progress and restore trust if they are in denial.

Both are in the Pacific usurping govts

Morrison is the most brazen person I have ever met. After shamelessly deceiving an ally, he even dared to say move on to the other party. What is the difference between this behavior and hooligans and bullies?

Macron on way out!

Morrison mistakenly made the criticism from France about Australia, when it was squarely directed at him and his government. The relationship will never be restored whilst he is still in government, he’s clearly burnt that bridge

There will be no trust restored while a known liar and sharer of confidential text messages remains as PM. The solution to this problem is obvious.

France treats the US as a dominant power (they need them); they treat Australia shabbily. Honestly, France is a fair weather friend. How many of their soldiers aided the pacific region during WW2 ? Their presence was negligible.

Literally… no one cares. The alliance and positioning with the US and UK, as well as military material, are infinitely superior.

I’ll rather them not trust us then to have laughed at us.

Yer, cuz we have gone full tyrannical. Aussies will survive wether yes foreigners come and go , it exposes the hypocrisy of them coming here to use us when times are tough run off as seen in many cases whinging as usual, citizenship is given to easy and they take advantage, , only Aussies born here be allowed back Immigrants in the 1970's basically thought of it as a one way trip.
