Australia 'hopeful' China trade dispute will be resolved

Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell has held a"warm and friendly meeting" with the Chinese ambassador amid hopes Beijing will finally lift its trade sanctions on Australian goods.

"We saw the triumph of diplomacy a couple of weeks ago when the prime minister met for the first time in six years with the President of China," Mr Farrell told Sky News Australia's Tom Connell on Thursday. "The relationship is thawing, we want a stabilised relationship with China and we're determined to do it."

The Minister said there was a"positive vibe" when he spoke with Chinese ambassador Xiao Qian on Wednesday night. "It was a warm and friendly meeting where I made it clear I'm prepared at anytime, anywhere to resolve these issues." "Since the election, we've been very clear and consistent in the way that we've been addressing our relationship with China," Mr Watts said.

Australia should accept that sooner or later Western countries will be forced to put heavy sanctions on China because CCP are supplying military equipment to Russia and support Putin's war crimes in Ukraine. So don't get to excited about any thaw in relationships with Beijing.
