The nationwide vaccination program begins today, a day after an 84-year-old World War II survivor and the Prime Minister were among the first Australians to get inoculated. It's expected that more than 60,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccination will be administered by the end of the week.

The government has identified key priority groups and first in line to get the jab will be people at increased risk of contracting COVID-19 including border and hotel quarantine workers, and frontline healthcare staff. This vaccine has an efficacy rate of 70 per cent, compared with Pfizer's 95 per cent.

"It's not the weapon that's going to win the COVID war, like the way it was announced by the governor of New York [Andrew Cuomo], but the strategy to target hotel quarantine staff — where there is the greatest risk of exposure will result in a considerable reduction of outbreaks," she said.WatchBefore a single dose has been administered in Australia, the rest of the world is racing to get shots in arms.

This meant that even people who became infected between the first and second dose would be less likely to spread the virus.

Eleven people were vacinated, (11), tell the truth.

It might be more impressively historic if they hadn't been so busy making announcements and so slow to actually get any vaccines.

We won't let them violate our rights.

🤣'historic'‽ I think you misspelt 'histrionic'.

It be interesting to see which electorates get it first.

I thought the covid rollout happened quite successfully a year ago. Now we’d want to get rid of it

If you're pregnant it is advised not to take the vaccines.

Australia lagging behind in COVID-19 vaccine rollout | Sky News AustraliaThe federal government has fallen behind its COVID-19 vaccine rollout timeline a little more than two weeks into the nation-wide program – with just three per cent of the initial goal achieved so far. \n\nAuthorities announced an initial goal of four million vaccinations administered by the end of March, however, with three weeks to go until the end of the month just three per cent of that figure have been vaccinated. \n\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison and Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy today defended the rollout, saying the government is prioritising safety over speed. \n\n“This is not a race. We have no burning platform in Australia, we are taking it as quickly and carefully and safely as we can,” Mr Murphy said. \n\n“We can take our time … we are expanding our rollout every day.” \n\nWhen asked whether he could confirm how many Australians will have actually received the jab by the end of March, Mr Morrison said he was unable to provide a figure. \n\n“We said at the time that any of these estimates that we give are always subject to the progress of the rollout and the events that we encounter along the way,” he responded. \n\n“When we’re in a better position to give an update on those figures then we will and we’re certainly working to the sort of targets that we would hope for.\n\n“Australians know that they want the vaccination program rolled out safely and securely.” \n\nMr Murphy reiterated, however, the major target remained to have every Australian adult seeking the jab vaccinated by the end of October. \n\nIsrael is leading the global rollout race, having vaccinated 45 per cent of its population – with close to four million people having received two doses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n So I'm guessing we aren't going to hit 4,000,000 vaccinated by end of March. The government have achieved nothing since coming into office. ScottyTheRapistProtector should be removed from office. The Federal Government fuck up everything they do! Australia is a ‘safe haven in COVID-19 storm’: Prime Minister | Sky News AustraliaThe government’s foresight to close international borders and commence programs for domestic manufacturing of vaccines has led to Australia becoming a “safe haven” in a “COVID-19 pandemic storm,” says Scott Morrison.\n\nMr Morrison said the Labor Party now faces a “test of national unity” to support the vaccine program as it continues to “undercut and undermine” confidence in the rollout.\n\nLabor MP Ged Kearney asked the prime minister why the government “failed to deliver” on its vaccine rollout promises including having four million vaccinations by the end of March.\n\nThe prime minister said the ongoing “crisis in Europe” led the government to only secure 700,000 of the 3.8 million vaccines it ordered.\n\n“This is something that the Labor Party seems to overlook,” he said.\n\nThe Morrison government knew “supply chain vulnerabilities would be present” throughout the pandemic, and in August began the commencement of a program to create domestic manufacturing capability of the AstraZeneca vaccine.\n\n“Were it not for that strategic decision, just like our decision to close the borders at the outset of the program, and to call a global pandemic two weeks before the World Health Organization, were it not for that, Australia would not have a vaccination program,' he said.\n\nThe prime minister said on top of overlooking the realities of the global pandemic, the Labor Party also sought to “undercut and undermine confidence”.\n\n“This is the leader of the opposition who only has political bones in his body. You won't find any other bones, and you certainly won't find a spine.”\n ScottMorrisonMP The LNP Clusterfuck continues... Snotty serves WordSalad... Australia in a 'better position' than Sweden so far on COVID-19 | Sky News AustraliaInfectious diseases expert Professor Peter Collignon says despite Sweden’s low mortality rate as result of the coronavirus – Australia has actually “done a lot better.” \n\n“At least within Europe Sweden has not faired worse than most other European countries – in fact has done a bit better,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.\n\n “If you compare them to other Scandinavian countries, such as Denmark, Norway and Finland - they actually have done worse.”\n\n Mr Collignon said when you look at the statistics across different countries’ response to the pandemic Australia has done a lot better than countries like Sweden.\n\n“So far, I would think, in Australia we’re in a better position than Sweden – and economically and socially we’ve done better than say the places that have had tighter lockdowns such as New Zealand or Victoria even – without necessarily any more cases and a worse result for going a bit more ‘middle of the road.’”\n Make sure you pass this on to Andrew Bolt and Rita Pahani who were hell bent on saying the Swedish model of herd immunity was the way. Wrong, wrong, wrong auspol So they have had less deaths then us, they haven't crippled their economy by shutting down and locking their residence down for months... What exactly are they doing better at again? Sweden, population 10mil. Covid deaths 12,300. The king of Sweden said that herd immunity was the wrong path to follow. Saying Australia did very well...is a gross understatement.

Australia avoided ‘mass’ COVID-19 breakout by working together | Sky News AustraliaHealth Minister Greg Hunt says by working together the country was able to avoid a mass COVID-19 breakout in Queensland and New South Wales.\n\nBoth states recorded zero new cases just days after Brisbane exited a three-day snap lockdown.\n\n“We did face a potential mass two state breakout, yet by working together and the actions of Australians, all the actions taken, while we aren't completely out of the woods yet, I think the results from New South Wales and Queensland are very, very heartening,” Mr Hunt said.\n\n“We know how to do this. We know when there are cases and what we have to do. Some of these decisions are difficult but they are lifesaving.”\n Mike Hunt Yet destroyed the little confidence people had in crossing borders. They can’t slam them shut every time. Hang on - he rubbished victoria and our premier every day we were in lock down what a total hypocrite.

The COVID-19 threat to Australia and PNG is 'real' | Sky News AustraliaThe COVID-19 health crisis currently facing Papua New Guinea is a threat to both PNG residents and Australians due to the nations' close proximity, according to Australian Council for International Development CEO Marc Purcell. \n\nHe told Sky News authorities were also greatly concerned about variants of COVID-19 developing and reducing the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine. \n\n“What we’re worried about is epidemiologists are estimating there could be up to a million cases of COVID infections across PNG by the end of the month,” he said. \n\n“We think if there’s going to be a million infections we are going to have to increase the rate of AstraZeneca and getting it distributed. \n\n“The threat to both countries is real.” \n
