Shadow Defence Minister Richard Marles has told Sky News that building closer defence ties with China is necessary to increase the trust between the nations. Speers

Shadow Defence Minister Richard Marles has told Sky News that building closer defence ties with China is necessary to increase the trust between the nations. Mr Marles said Australia and China could undertake more military exercises together, despite concerns over the Asian nation flexing its muscles in the South China Sea.

“There is no trust that I can tell in terms of the relationship that currently exists between China and Australia, and that is something that we need to build,” he said. “The military-to-military relationship that exists between Australia and China in the context of the entire relationship is in one of the better places. “In a world where we’re seeking to build more trust, where that would be a good thing to do, part of the relationship which is going better than other parts is worth leveraging.

Think you're noticing China in the media a lot? You'd be rightCoverage of China by Australia's major media outlets more than doubles since this time last year. I can remember when it was Japan, Damned good reason to cancel your print subscriptions. In the context of Australia, the hysteria is clear enough, but for our tiny island of 20 mil, it is the hubris of thumping our chests and talking about having our sovereignty respected that will really smooth brains. Its about time we wake up to the Communism invAsion in our country in the name of trade. How we forget about the way they are still murdering their people.
