Port Macquarie Koala Hospital’s Sue Ashton says “a lot of our wildlife organisations run on a shoestring” and although the government’s press conference was held at the Koala hospital “there wasn’t any definite contribution to us”.

Earlier on Monday Environment Minister Sussan Ley and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg spoke from the koala hospital where they announced a $50 million fund to help affected wildlife recover.

“I think 50 per cent of that is going to zoos and 50 per cent to our wildlife organisations,” Ms Ashton told Sky News. “They [wildlife organisations] are mainly volunteer organisations and $25 million will certainly go some way to helping but more would be good”.
