A police officer supervising Aboriginal woman Tanya Day while in custody has agreed a check on her just seconds before she fell and hit her head was "completely inadequate".

At an inquest into her death, custody supervisor Sergeant Edwina Neale was today shown CCTV footage of Ms Day stumbling in the cell before repeatedly falling between 4.22pm and 4.45pm. Five minutes after the falls, footage showed leading senior constables Danny Wolters and Wayne Cairnes checking on Ms Day through a cell window for just a few seconds before walking away.

Did your extensive education teach you that did it?

As sad as this is please use appropriate language to report. She wasn’t bundled into the cell from what I c in the video, likewise didn’t die in custody but 17 days later in hospital. Don’t try and sensationalise this to evoke reactions

Aboriginal deaths in custody would end, if they just stopped committing crimes.

Tanya Day inquest shown 'distressing' video of her falling and hitting headAn inquest into the death of an Aboriginal grandmother who died after a series of falls in custody has been shown video footage of her movements inside a Victorian police station cell. We saw the video and she was treated respectfully and with caution. What's your point? There are continuous reports about indigenous people being “over represented “ in jail. This story adds to this rubbish. Stop committing crimes and you won’t go to jail ! Simples 🤦🏼‍♂️ It all began at drunk on a train. RIP.
