Australian shares are likely to start the day higher as global markets, China's in particular, rally in spite of surging COVID-19 infections.

ASX SPI futures +0.5pc at 6,019 points, ASX 200 -0.7pc at 6,015

But how it performs may depend on the Reserve Bank's latest commentary about Australia's economic recovery this afternoon. On Wall Street, technology stocks boosted the Nasdaq by 2.2 per cent to 10,434 points, its new closing record.Shares in online retail giant Amazon surged by 5.8 per cent or $US166.74 overnight — to finish at $US3,057.04, its highest value ever.
