Aristocrat is suing its main rival over claims it used confidential trade secrets to rip off one of its games. Light & Wonder has attempted to have the process thrown out of court.

Poker machine manufacturer Light & Wonder has accused its major rival of trying to compromise the launch of its new dragon-themed game, claiming an attempt to secure confidential documents through the courts is based on speculation rather than fact.

“Rather than competing on an even playing field … Aristocrat has contrived baseless legal claims in multiple jurisdictions coinciding with the release of L&W products in an effort to tarnish … product rollouts and drive customers away,” documents filed in Nevada allege.poker machine game to the Australian market last August. Within a month, Aristocrat sent a series of letters to Light & Wonder alleging trade secrets had been shared.

Light & Wonder, which is listed on the Nasdaq and ASX, says it conducted a voluntary search of its staff and internal systems for breaches of trade secrets and found no confidential documents. But in December, Aristocrat pushed ahead and filed a case in the Australian Federal Court for discovery.

In documents filed in Nevada, Aristocrat alleges its rival engaged in a campaign to copy the game and confuse customers with the launch of. Light & Wonder shares are trading at $154.46 – down 0.2 per cent – in mid-morning.
