Julian Assange’s father and brother have met with Germany’s foreign ministry in a bid to push support for the Australian publisher before his possible extradition to the United States.

Gabriel Shipton, Julian Assange’s brother, said the German deputy foreign minister had been sympathetic to the Australian’s plight.

John Shipton, Julian Assange’s father, and Gabriel Shipton outside the British consulate in New York on Friday after Britain ordered the Australian publisher’s extradition to the US.Shipton said he believed Australians now understood what his brother faced if extradited from London’s high-security Belmarsh prison to the US, and that Australian politicians understood the community’s concern.

A group of Labor, Coalition, Greens, teal and crossbench MPs are continuing their campaign to push the federal government to formally ask the US to drop its charges. Assange’s wife Stella Morris. They have two children and were married in Belmarsh prison earlier this year.Asked about the opposition’s comments, Gabriel Shipton said they were not relevant. “You’ve got China using Julian as a whip for the UK in the US – you know, like, ‘Don’t lecture us on press freedom when you’ve got a journalist and publisher locked up in prison.’ I think Peter Dutton’s arguments fall away pretty quickly.

Ruby also attended Assange’s court hearings since December 2011, and said she was hopeful Albanese would now intervene. She said watching Assange “really deteriorate over 10 years might make my hope desperate, but I believe that Albo will try and make a breakthrough. He gets what’s at stake and why it matters.”

Assange’s incarceration is totally political to stop other journalists from releasing the truth that the govt wants US spying on their own people, secret torture prisons etc. Democracy is dying.

bigtoes44 A very dangerous position when the journalist is silenced on actual facts that are in the public interest. We have seen over the last few years with journalists who have spoken out and held to account or tried to at very direr consequences at consulates and in the streets.

Julian did what the Washington Post did (back when they were a real news outfit) by publishing the Pentagon Papers, which revealed US military crimes in Vietnam.

wikileaks President Biden. I voted for you when you ran against Trump. I have Full Confidence that you will not give in to these “Free Speech Activists” who are demanding Julian Assange be Released……

Could Julian Assange be freed now there are new leaders in the US and Australia?Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says he will not be pressured into publicly intervening in the Julian Assange extradition case, despite international law experts arguing that direct involvement by Australia would carry 'significant' diplomatic sway. Sure why not New leaders would be ok with espionage? lol I’m not so sure if either of them are really in charge of anything.

Maybe try atoning instead of pretending they never happened katinacurtis There are hundreds of thousands of people supporting JulianAssange, if not millions. This “quiet approach” is not what Australian public wants. How can we judge the Government?what if they simply do nothing then they say they tried? We want openness and information. FreeAssange
