An Afghan interpreter, who launched a legal battle against a decision to deny him a resettlement visa in Australia, has had his case heard before Federal court

For five years Liaqat Khan put his life on the line, serving alongside Australian troops in Afghanistan as an interpreter attached to coalition forces."The Taliban are after them. There are regular spies and intelligence that are looking for them . Shots were fired on them and some of them left their areas because of the threats of the Taliban," he told SBS News.

Mr Khan has been working with retired Army Captain Jason Scanes to ensure the others don't suffer the same fate. "Certainly the references before the minister, spoke very, very highly of that applicant, and the people who provided those references were people who were on the ground working very closely with him," he told SBS News.Captain Scanes, who travelled to Sydney from Brisbane for the proceedings was among those who provided a reference.

Agree that he has earned every opportunity to be heard. Don't forget that 1 in 6 Australians soldiers that died there were killed by Afghans who were 'on our side'. It's this unpredictability that's the problem.

Just let him i,the man put his life on the line for Australians,if this guy doesn’t desertit who does?.

Unless he is willing to work as an au pair, Dutton will not allow him here.

If he served as an interpreter for our troops in an area of conflict which places him in danger of reprisals then our Govt has a duty of responsibility. How can we expect the help of 'locals' if we don't reciprocate?

What sort of government we have got now? No heart

Not if potato head can help it

If he's not on a watch list give him a shot...the man worked for us, served our troops ffs!

MiloWh007 Lets let this guy stay. He helped our troops and deserves a fair go.

These people put their lives on the line to help us in a conflict zone, and this is the way we repay them?

all interpreters should be offered resettlement, no questions asked. auspol

As long as they don’t bring those values and laws back home.

Hope he wins. PeterDutton_MP abcnews

Come on guys he tried to help us out, surely we can help him

How low we have sunk as a nation who once took pride in 'mateship' and 'fairgo' in this case where both supporting a mate who offered his life to support our troops is denied safe harbour. ScottMorrisonMP you fail the 'fairgo' test here.
