Opinion: As Afghan mothers sell their daughters, Australia stands limply by | Virginia Haussegger

. It’s a shocking read, detailing how the Taliban has systematically “decimated the rights of women and girls”. Khorsheed’s secret testimony is just one of many.

last August, “women will be afforded all their rights whether it is work or other activities … we guarantee all their rights within the limits of Islam”?Those “limits” proved to be little short of home-based imprisonment. The litany of new restrictions on females – once unimaginable – now entrench a level of state-sanctioned gender apartheid, worse than anywhere else in the world.

They argue that none of this is haphazard. It is, in fact, systemic, methodical and deeply ideologically driven: “After a year of diplomatic engagement, the Taliban has made no compromises. Instead, it has tightened its grip on patriarchal power.”

Apparently Australia is responsible for bad things that happen in far away countries! Meanwhile many in Australia bleat about oppression here! What is going on with society at the moment?

Tribes cannot ruled over by a central power.

What do you expect from a country that didn't want us there and are religious fundamentalists?

Disgusting custom of sex slavery from a disgusting people.

Sad but Afghan society is fundamentally broken and nothing Australia does will fix it. The best Australia can do is facilitate asylum for Afghan women and their families.

One more US mess?

World saw how useless Australia, USA and allies were in Afghanistan. Ask China they have more power, was only embassy not shut down

We were involved, along with Americans and other western countries. Would not surprise me that those most critical of that involvement would now be most outraged at our non-involvement.

This comes after the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide handed down its interim report which includes 13 recommendations. “Action needs to happen and happen quickly,” Ms Hughes told Sky News host Chris Smith. Imagine losing your job for being terrible at it and then emailing your old employer telling them that they need to do better. 😂 Nothing happened under her government for 9 years, now everything has to be done yesterday. What an absolute hypocrite. While in the U.S. Republicans voted no on veterans getting health care for the burn pits that caused cancer and much more.. veterans are angels and they should always get the best health care
