Are the memes helping or hindering their own insight or development? Are they no more than brittle assertions of wellbeing and really a cry for help? |OPINION by DrJimBright

Austin Powers once reassured Felicity Shagwell, who wanted to know how the ’70s and ’80s turn out, that “there’s a gas shortage and A Flock of Seagulls. That’s about it.” Michael McCullers and Mike Myers, the writers of this film, clearly did not work in an office in the 1980s, otherwise it would have been added to the list. With perhaps one exception, these were the last glory days of the office. It has all been downhill since. The 1980s office was yet to be fully populated with computers.

One aspect of this that concerns me is what appears to be a tendency to weaponise or recruit memes that perhaps deliberately or inadvertently project and therefore reveal a person’s struggles. It concerns me that frequently these memes amount to laying blame on others while implicitly exonerating the author. Easier to blame others and the world than to look inside. “A strong person will automatically stop trying, if they feel unwanted. They won’t fix or beg.

DrJimBright Ugh no! I've had Motivational Meme Fatigue for many years. They were never going to be the panacea I needed. But I do like this one. It's called Drowning.
