The Archbishop of Sydney has called on people to"turn down the temperature" and have a peaceful disposition towards one another after the religiously-motivated terror attack on a church.
“It's not what we're used to here in Australia, and it's not the kind of Australia that I think any of us wants. The shocking events at Wakeley saw a prominent Bishop from Sydney’s Assyrian community, Mar Mari Emmanuel, allegedly knifed several times while delivering an evening sermon. A video recording of the incident was filmed on the church’s Facebook livestream and viewed by thousands of people online.Federal police confirmed on Tuesday morning the incident would be treated as an act of terrorism, with complete profiling to be conducted of the offender and people close to him.
“I was very disturbed by this. I'm a bishop, too. It could have been me… it’s a terrible thing that has happened.”
