Eerie scenes as a heavy dust storm swallows the city of Mildura in northwest Victoria. The state's highest bushfire warning has been issued - code red. 9News

"Prevailing visibility at the airport has fallen from four kilometres to 500 metres."

Victoria's highest bushfire warning - code red - has been issued for central and northwestern parts of the state today."Homes are not built to withstand the types of fires we may see on a code red day and you don't want to be caught travelling through areas on fire at the last minute, if you wait and see," Country Fire Authority chief officer Steve Warrington said.

"We've got the very hot, dry and quite gusty northerly winds and that's what's driven up the fire danger," the Bureau of Meteorology's Tom Delamotte said. The fire danger rating is set at severe or very high for the rest of the state, with a severe weather warning for damaging winds also in place.

It is a dust storm - have happened before and before we had the “code red” brought in as politicians could not understand “low, medium, high and extreme”

I cannot imagine what it will be like come the end of summer when its this bad now

It’s been a shocker here today, there’s a layer of dust inside and can’t see to the end of the street outside 🥵

Victoria fires LIVE: Clunes threatened by out-of-control grass fire on Code Red dayThis live article replaces a news story that pulls together some of the events from this morning including disruption from high winds and comments from authorities including Premier Daniel Andrews. That's because of the heat wave, tomorrow it will down to 19 So records show this is not new? It's not the equal hottest since 1894. It's the equal hottest ever on record. The last time we had a 40.9 in november was in 1894. Your phrasing suggests that it was hotter in 1894.
