Two anti-fracking protesters have pleaded not guilty to criminal charges after using a bobcat to dig holes in the grass outside Northern Territory Parliament House last year. One of the defendants said they were protesting a decision to allow fracking in the NTLauren Mellor and Conrad Rory, who are charged with one count each of criminal damage to property, were part of environmental group Protect Country Alliance when they organised the 2019 protest action.

The court heard witnesses said the holes were between six and 12 inches deep and took an hour to repair.by Ms Mellor, who was the group's spokeswoman at the time. He also accused Ms Mellor of staging a theatrical protest to gain media attention for the Protect Country Alliance. When Mr Rory took to the witness stand, he said metal contamination from the McArthur River Mine, a zinc and lead mine near Borroloola, had already impacted the livelihoods of locals."I wouldn't want to end up in the long grass or on the street because the water's been poisoned.

Mr Lawrence said Mr Rory felt "unsafe" in the courtroom because of the judge's alleged hostility, and Mr Rory was fearful the judge would "throw the book at him".

I find this story rather refreshing

Notice all the white protesters watching the indigenous protesters do the damage that landed them in court. It seems to be a growing trend for Greenies to use indigenous people for there own cause. Fracking is not cool but neither is using people as pawns.

Good on him. Fuck fracking.

Fracking, the government allowing the land to be poisoned. Doing what the Chinese will do anyway.

This should be a short case, pleading not guilty to criminal damage yet they posted a video of them committing criminal damage. 🤣🤣🤣

Where does parental responsibility come into the equation? Nothing at all to do with the parents, or the kids huh? How about people take responsibility. Instead of blaming some department that shouldn't be in existence. Costing tax payers.
