Prime minister says there is a ‘fundamental weakness in checks and balances’ and he will consider if a formal inquiry is needed

He said he would consider whether any changes needed to be made after receiving the advice, including whether a formal inquiry should be undertaken.“There hasn’t been a suggestion of illegality but … there have been questions raised about how this could occur, how it fits in with the conventions and the normal accountability mechanisms and checks and balances that are there in our parliamentary democracy. They are matters that need to be considered.

On Monday the office of the official secretary to the governor-general defended its role in the non-disclosure of Morrison’s ministerial appointments. “Acknowledging that the administrative appointments were not communicated – as expected, by the government of the day – the office supports a more transparent process to ensure that any appointments made under section 64 are made public.”As Morrison resists calls to resign, he is facing fresh criticism for his decision throughout 2020 and 2021 to take on additional portfolios without advising his colleagues or making the information public.

“It also is forcing other colleagues to ... defend themselves and their own records and I think that that’s unfair,” she said.

Where is queen Elizabeth to kick the Govenor generals butt too. RoyalFamily

Great to have this transparency informing the public debate on this. If it’s not illegal to have a extra secret minister appointed to a portfolio, then legislation should be put in place to ensure it will be in future.

What does my hero Geoffrey Watson think? His response will do fine for me.

What legal advice? Its obviously legal. Unethical? Yes. But legal.

Typically lefties media and Sociolist Labor Party. Totally hypothetical. Gough William had 11 shadow cabinet positions during his time as PM and no pandemic at that time.

Just be dignified. Finland seems quite OK with it, but the press here seems to think it smells blood and behaves as it usually does. Yes

Albanese to release Morrison legal advice tomorrowPrime Minister Anthony Albanese says he will be releasing the Solicitor General’s advice on former prime minister Scott Morrison’s secret portfolios tomorrow. “My government, as an orderly government, we have a Cabinet meeting tomorrow,” he said during a media conference on Monday. “I think politeness and proper process means they should have access to it. I’ll do that and I intend to release the advice tomorrow.” Let me guess.🤔 No laws broken but ScoMo doing that was inconsistent with the Westminster system. No action against ScoMo but changing parliamentary rules to stop a future PM doing it. Done, now AlboMP get back to work & focus on cost of living, ICAC, cancel obscene tax cuts. hey AlboMP start thinking about real wages and the cost of living pressures.

Albanese to review manufacturing grantsSome of the more than $800 million in manufacturing grants that were doled out by former prime minister Scott Morrison after he secretly swore himself in as Industry Minister will be reviewed to see if any of them should be scrapped, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says. Can someone please tell Albo there is a country that needs his attention. It called Australia and it been 12 weeks since Albo was elected. Anyone else that had a job for 12 weeks and done nothing would have been sacked by now. Reminder to Albo. Scott did nothing with his powers. So, he lied when he said he only made one decision when operating as shadow ministers? What a shock. How about he just get on with running the country. dosomething
