Anthony Albanese breaks election pledge not to ‘run away from press conferences’

The Morrison Government released its independently assessed figures on Tuesday, claiming the budget will be $1 billion better off as it was two months ago.These include more seniors having access to the health concession card, reducing the co-payments for taxpayer-subsidised medicines, and a new policy to support first home buyers into the property market by allowing them to access their superannuation.

To help offset these costs, the government would increase the efficiency dividend on departments and agencies by 0.5 percentage points to two per cent, saving around a further $1 billion.It comes as a new poll shows the race between the Coalition and Labor tightening in the lead-up to election day. A Resolve Strategic poll in Nine newspapers suggests support for Labor has slipped from 34 to 31 per cent and that the Coalition’s primary vote has increased from 33 to 34 per cent.

The poll shows Labor with a two-party preferred lead of 51 to 49 per cent, a significant narrowing in the election contest from the result of 54 to 46 per cent two weeks ago.If you’d like to view this content, please adjust your
