A group of seven MPs from the ALP’s Right faction – including Treasurer Tim Pallas and Major Events Minister Steve Dimopoulos – has shifted to the Left | paulsakkal and sumeyyailanbey

Premier Daniel Andrews has scored a major post-election win with a group of MPs joining his Socialist Left faction, strengthening his grip on government and giving his group a majority within state Labor.

These ministers’ positions were supported by the votes of the MPs who have defected, meaning this group within the Right are now entitled to one, or perhaps two, cabinet positions. It is not clear how many will be demoted, and any wholesale change could stir post-election disunity in the party. Andrews is preparing to unveil the fresh make-up of his cabinet as early as Friday, with St Albans MP Natalie Suleyman and Northern Metropolitan Region representative Enver Erdogan widely tipped to be elevated to the frontbench.

The dominant Right faction grouping – made up of the Transport Workers Union, shoppies union and MPs aligned with Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles – has gained new MPs since the election, and will push for up to three new cabinet positions.

paulsakkal sumeyyailanbey I cannot believe a socialist left premier can treat the environment as this man does. Not to mention the continued duck hunting and destruction of old growth forests. Disgusting.

redrabbleroz paulsakkal sumeyyailanbey Seems left & right don't really mean anything in the ALP.

paulsakkal sumeyyailanbey Guesswork, presumptions, light on facts. What was Chip Le Grand crapping on about? No bias, right.

Three contenders left vying for Victorian Liberal leadership after Ryan Smith drops out of raceRyan Smith drops out of the race for the leadership of the Victorian Liberal Party. Matthew Guy left the top job in the party after his second election defeat. Why has counting for the seat of Hawthorn stalled at 71% since Sunday? Whoever ends up with the leadership, how about you run a party that has clear principles and has the courage to stand for those principles vocally, visibly and with conviction. Rather than being 'Labor but slightly less so'. 80% of Victorian's don't care about politics, so they just vote how they always do, unless you can cast a vision that gives them a clear, distinct and motivating reason to think deeply about their vote. The electorate might reject it, but it beats being a milk-toast loser again.
