ANALYSIS: The Dockers had no choice — after four seasons of mediocrity, Ross Lyon had to go

Another Doig Medallist in Bradley Hill has been widely tipped to ask for a trade to a Melbourne club at the end of the year, despite being contracted at Fremantle for another two seasons.

If Hill were to leave this year, the Dockers would have lost their 2016, 2017 and 2018 best-and-fairest winners in the space of a year.Fremantle president Dale Alcock said the board had a duty to act in the best interests of its members and supporters, and to be bold in making its strategic decisions.

Parting ways with a CEO and senior coach at the same time is indeed bold, but a bold move is what delivered the Dockers their best period of success when Lyon was signed to replace Mark Harvey.

About time. Lyon has been a failure as a coach wherever he has been. Never understood why the Saints and Fremantle held onto him for so long.

He came close to a couple of GFs but never quite made it.

You could say the same about several other teams and coaches
