Health Minister Mark Butler has come under fire from the Australian Medical Association over a decision that has been made regarding Telehealth services.

Mr Butler on Thursday told reporters Level C telephone consultations lasting 20 minutes or longer will not be extended beyond June 30.

"Australians who are most vulnerable, those that don't have access to high speed internet or that can't use the devices that you need to actually do a video conference, they're going to have the telephone access that they have today taken away tomorrow," Dr Khorshid said. "The people who we least want to be sitting in a doctors surgery because of the risk of them contracting COVID from other patients or from their doctor, they're going to be sitting in those waiting rooms under an increased risk of contracting COVID.

AMA Vice President Dr Chris Moy said a lot of his patients do not have access to broadband or cannot use smartphones, as he highlighted how longer consultations were often necessary. Mr Butler said patients will still be able to access phone consultations up to 20 minutes and video consultations will also remain available.

"Beyond that, they will always be able to have a remote or virtual consultation with their doctor provided it's a video consult. It's not our intention to change the decision of the former government, but that additional telephone consultation for the longer consults will end today."

…still fighting to be Australias least credible source of everything

Telehealth has helped a LOT of people ... especially sick .. elderly ... and disabled people who find it really hard to get to the doctor. Liberal government were KEEPING telehealth .... you should be too.

Apparently Australians voted at the last election to continue LNP policies & cuts to services like NDIS & Medicare, while politicians gifted themselves a $14,000 tax cut from 2023. LNP's stage 3 tax cuts are a 220 billion budget time bomb. Obscene & unaffordable abcnews abc730

Well he's got an arts degree so I'm guessing he knows slot about telehealth 🤪🤪🤪
