The loss of a star for an extended period is usually an issue for clubs but Mills was not overly concerned about Parker missing the infancy of the season. It is not just Gulden and Heeney who are starring. Lloyd suggested Justin McInerney, Chad Warner and James Warner were among the Swans who “have gone past” Parker. That trio sit in the Swans’ top 10 based on player ratings this year.The absence of Franklin has not led to a scoring dip, either, with the Swans flourishing with more avenues to goal and a greater ability to trap the footy in their attacking arc.
Despite the retirement of Paddy McCartin and recent absence of his younger brother Tom, the Swans also possess the most miserly defence in the competition nearing the halfway mark of 2024.
