Hawthorn forward Chad Wingard has played more than 200 AFL games, but he says he still experiences racism “all the time” in his everyday life. AFL

program, Wingard said that in one case, he tested to see how long it would take for him to be served at a car yard. He was ignored by salespeople for an hour.“They came up to eight people, I was there first, I didn’t get served. No one came up to me,” he said.

“I realised then that racism is across everywhere. No matter how much money you earn, how much you do, if you have a black face, that’s what some people will see you as.” The lively forward said he and former Power teammate Jake Neade were also told to empty their pockets numerous times at 7-Eleven stores.Wingard has been outspoken in the past about the racism he has experienced, evenwhen he was traded.

“You think about the kids who are 12 years old, 13 years old, copping this abuse on social media,” Wingard said.
