Private school fees for 2022 rose 2.6 per cent on the back of rising costs, but all-boys’ schools are more aggressive in their fee hikes.

Parents of boys pay a premium for choosing single-sex private schools with the average fee increases for 2022 rising by a far higher rate than those of all-girls and co-educational schools.

Annual tuition fees at Geelong Grammar are $43,600, while the Victorian average for non-government school is $14,140. The King’s School charges $43,297, while the average for NSW non-government schools is $12,950., a school payment plan company, says he is intrigued by the fact single-sex boys’ schools have increased their fees at a higher rate that all-girls and co-educational schools but does not have a clear explanation.

Mr Stevens said he was aware of a similar dynamic wherein single-sex boys’ schools tended to receive much more significant philanthropic donations and bequests than all-girls and co-ed schools.
