Former All Black Justin Marshall says next month's Rugby World Cup will be neutral territory and Australia's history with New Zealand won't matter | geerob

The All Blacks are outright favourites to win a fourth World Cup, paying $2.25 with Ladbrokes, with South Africa and England followed by Ireland and Wales with Australia a distant $13.

If both countries top their pools and win their semi-finals, they could meet in the final, a rematch of 2015.“Japan is a different kettle of fish,” he said. “I’ve got two mates coaching the Japanese team , who I played a lot of rugby with and I love what they’re doing for Japanese rugby. But they know me so they won’t be hurt by me saying this: it’s great Japan are hosting the World Cup but they won’t be in the final.

“It’s going to be foreign soil for whoever makes that final in conditions that aren’t favourable to either team because they’re not their conditions.Only Australia, South Africa and Ireland have beaten New Zealand since the last World Cup, while England last beat them in 2012. Marshall said those four teams were the danger sides for the All Blacks, along with France, who have a history of upsetting them, or coming close, in World Cups.

“Wales is the funny one from a New Zealand perspective because they haven’t beaten New Zealand in 50 years and I wonder if that weighs on their shoulders. It’s a massive burden to have. They’re not only trying to win a Rugby World Cup, they have to try and get past the All Blacks.
