Comedian and musician Alex Horne explains the secrets of his Edinburgh Fringe show, which has spawned a global TV format.

Their efforts – or more often failings– are then assessed by the Taskmaster and his assistant, which is played by comedian, musician and show-creator Alex Horne.has spawned numerous international versions, including an Australian iteration which debuted on Ten in 2023.

I don’t have any power. I don’t want any power. Greg has to judge the comedians’ attempts, hand out points and run the whole show. That’s power. I would hate his job. I would also be rubbish at his job. I’m a little man who likes statistics and I just have to sit next to him and admire everything about him. That’s it. So, yes, I am in his thrall, but happily so. Also, I do come up with the tasks themselves, but that is not a powerful thing to do. It’s the contestants who choose their fate.

I prefer to think the viewers enjoy seeing the comedians being themselves, acting without a script and behaving a bit more like them than they usually do. We’ve taken away their safety net. But they don’tHow often do the contestants onEvery single task someone does something that surprises me. The five comics almost always approach the same thing in completely different ways, and I find that both unbelievable and lovely.
