The Liberal Party's Albany branch has endorsed Dr Thomas Brough as its candidate for next year's state election, despite a recent history of controversial public commentary.

An Albany doctor and local councillor who incorrectly claimed people sexually attracted to children were part of the LGBTQIA plus community has won a local Liberal Party pre-selection.Dr Brough 's nomination now goes to the Liberal Party's State Council for endorsement in May.

Local Liberal branch members last night chose Thomas Brough as their candidate for the state seat of Albany at next year's state election.Dr Brough beat Scott Leary in the branch vote, who ran for the party at the last state election in 2021.council meeting, where Dr Brough claimed the meaning of his statements had been "lost in translation", before repeating the claims."I need to better understand that, but obviously those comments are not appropriate," she said.

He is a doctor at Albany hospital's emergency department, a member of the Kalgan Bushfire Brigade and operates a farm in Kalgan.At a council meeting in March, Dr Brough falsely claimed the community should be aware paedophiles, or what he dubbed "minor-attracted persons" were part of the "+" in LGBTQIA+.Dr Brough doubled down on the comments when interviewed by the ABC the following day, claiming the '+' included paedophiles.
