Federal Labor leader Anthony Albanese has given a loose commitment to increase funding for aged care should he win the next election

, saying a policy to give them away free would be subject to “limits based upon the health advice”.

“What you’ve had from this government is a ‘let it rip’ approach when it comes to the market delivering and the market hasn’t delivered,” Mr Albanese told the ABC.He also gave his backing to aged care workers in the wage case before the Fair Work Commission, in which aged care providers and unions have reached consensus on the increased complexity and value of aged care work.

“But the big missing piece in this workforce, we still don’t have a commitment to have a nurse in a nursing home. We still don’t have a commitment to increase in terms of other care workers in aged care, and we still don’t have a commitment to increases in wages and conditions so that aged care facilities are able to attract the staff.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said Mr Albanese’s comments had shown he was “making it up, with no plan for managing the pandemic”.

Increased funding to private providers means more profit for them and no guarantee of improved care, other solutions need to be explored

The Morrison Government has abandoned our Elderly COVID19

Instead of spending more money on keeping the elderly who are not sick in Aged Care Homes the Labor Party would be better spending it on home care so families can have their elderly people at home.

'Pandemic of the V accinatted' Over the past 20 days in NSW, of the 625 deaths reported by NSWHealth , 71.2% have been fully vaccinated. Old age and pre-existing health conditions remain the clearest predictors of death with Covid.

Throwing money at a dysfunctional service is not a solution. Knowing what’s not working and fixing it with the allocated money will be prudent AND worthy of praise and support. There’s not a week that goes by in which my MIL has to have simple responsibilities chased down. Bah!

Australia can’t afford another term of LNP, stop with the spin and scare campaigns SMH, report on the real issues including deals with developers SaveSydneyKoalas Campbeltown

Is it being funded by intro of death taxes, ceasing -ve gearing, franking credit refunds, increasing GST or breaking one of the very fast train promises

I watched Albo on Insiders. Albo didn't give a clear commitment on aged care, it was more finger pointing that scomo wasn't doing enough. We want details! Why do we need to wait until a few weeks before an election for leaders to clearly articulate their parties policies?

Excellent!

mo’ OPM

Under Scottys current federal government Dec 26, 2019

Yeah, yeah and pigs might fly

This paper has become a rag in another article the 'quality' journalists referred to Albanese in what many consider the derogatory term of a 'wannabe' ie 'it was only natural that wannabe prime minister Anthony Albanese...'

So ScoMo he's blasted for helping out a young with tax benefits but when it comes to Albo giving money to age care it's 'hah'

Same old BS promises before a Election then dont deliver anything when they get in seriously what a joke of a system we have put up with for so long

He’s loose alright Lots of ifs and maybe’s Time for some real policy statements

He may actually be worse for our country than Scomo and that's saying something. Wherearealltheleaders

Loose.... Vote me in and i might look into it

Another $30B like NDIS?

Omicron rips through aged care as Canberra’s booster program delayedThe number of Victorian aged care homes with active coronavirus cases has risen sharply, with outbreaks in the state’s facilities growing from seven to 296 since late December, data shows COVID19Vic Should not be a surprise. We know the elderly are vulnerable. Loneliness of the last 2 years - for many - has been a bigger worry though. The only people who needed care were the elderly and the frail. This was evident early on. Giving children vaccines is the height of lunacy. It's like giving avalanche training in the Sahara Desert. So? If everyone’s lives are so important to us, we would happily spend our billions of dollars to fucking cure cancer. But do we?

Anthony Albanese accuses Morrison government of leaving business behind during Omicron waveLabor leader says small firms suffering from a ‘void of national leadership’ after Barnaby Joyce defends decision not to provide extra economic support Interesting that even NSW Premier and Trasuter are calling out the feds. Clearly trying to distance themselves from the sinking ship. But it won’t work. We know they are complicit. While only “considering”an increase in the Jobseeker payment at some point in the distant future 😡 whenever an article quotes Barnaby Joyce I feel he's channelling Bjelke Peterson - I think it's because he manages to put my brain into freeze
