Indigenous groups say they received no proper support when the 15-year-old Commonwealth bans lapsed last year, as the NT and federal governments pledge funds for future solutions.

She said there should have been extensive consultation done by government before the bans ended, and more facilities and services set up to provide support.

The bans lifted less than two months after the Albanese government was elected, but before the first sittings of the new parliament, a fact that has seen Labor distance itself from responsibility."We weren't the government when that decision was made," Mr Albanese said last week. When asked if more focus should have been put on the liquor bans lapsing by the incoming government, Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney did not directly answer.

Evidence that the ABCNews is in breach of its charter. Ignoring the voices of people like JNampijinpa doesn’t exactly fit in with the pro voice narrative. Terribly Orwellian and surreal. No wonder people distrust ABCNews

404 still shows since my last tweet. 5000 extra views and half a dozen extra likes. Seems some may be able to read the link but others mention 404. Checked ABC app under Just in, politics and searched keywords but story does not exist there. Anything wrong you're in Twitter?

So these Aboriginal groups, cant think for themselves. No balls huh. When are they going to stepup and take responsibility as they said 10 years ago. 'Let the elders handle the kids' not the cops. Hindmarsh Bridge all over again. Talk talk talk, no action.

Time for a complete fucking clean out of the ABC. Now they are just printing lies. Need to apologise to Labor and sack the authors of this misinformation!

Why did you remove the article, ?

Page not found?

Actually, the Morrison LNP Government let these laws lapse, not the Albanese ALP. This is a sad day when the ABC publishes lies and propaganda against the ALP.

WAT? The Liberals were in charge for 10 years and did nothing to put in place services, supports, activities to improve the situation. I mean come on you reported someone with an injury had to be airlifted to Sydney, that’s how bad things are in the NT. auspol

So he's forcing the alcoholic bottles up to their mouths is he? Grow up.

Albo.....big on Voice, small on action.

These problems should have been solved years ago by previous Gov. A.A. cleaning up one hell of a mess. I hope we see national service introduced. No exceptions then Problem solved.

Seriously ABC we know who let it Lapse but we can definitely tell your board needs this government shake up, clinging to spin is all you are doing now!

Do alcohol bans even do anything? What stopping them asking someone else to buy it for them for an extra fee? No politician wants to touch it anyways seeing intervention could be accused of being another 'stolen generation'

the minister likes to talk about nothing.........albo likes it

Lol

So I guess it's the states fault, so maybe the state should just go back and remove what it provides EVERYTHING for....because if no-one is gonna b pers9nalky responsible, it's just far to expensive.... 4he excise doesn't cover the rehab cost and.child protection.

So, the state supply's the cash to drink, the laws to drink, the codes and ethics of supply, then, they have to supply the care and rehab, the child protection, the extra training and EVERYTHING ELSE, so people can drink, pluck themselves, and society,

The wrong voices

Yes these woke left extremist givernments are an absolute disaster and destroying our country both mentally and financially. How the people are so easily brainwashed into believing their lies and spin truly amazes me.

My brother has live up there for 30years ban or no ban Alice Springs has been like this for as long as his been there so why now does the media get so involved maybe it’s to do with not supporting the yes vote to parliament

The whole country couldn't believe the ban was lifted?..and the cashless debit card needs to be further initiated in certain codes. Absolute no brainer. $65m allocated to drug/alcohol programs?..its been tried and tested before with minimal impact. A real problem getting worse

AmandaRishworth AlboMP LindaBurneyMP & the wider AustralianLabor party are wholly responsible. They were warned. They chose to appease their inner city lefty mates rather than listen to those with lived experience. Every death, injury & crime is directly their fault.

'We weren't the government when that decision was made,' Mr Albanese said last week. Make time

So, despite LindaBurneyMP trying to blame the previous government, it turns out it was AustralianLabor that ignored the end of the bans, mismanaged the situation & disregarded the constant pleas from the NT government to put in place some form of plan to tackle these issues.

What was The Intervention era in NT Indigenous communities? The hardline Northern Territory Emergency Response was in place across the territory for 15 years. So, what was the policy that became better known as 'The Intervention'? However, critics say the policy embraced the worst effects of colonialism and argue it resulted in higher rates of incarceration among Indigenous Australians, while doing little to make Aboriginal children safer. Bingo. 'It's impossible to police your way out of this because, when you think about it, the number of children in juvenile detention has escalated,' she said. So profiteering on house prices and rendering everyone homeless isnt the solution? Its just leading to rising crime levels? The reason labor is refraining from a Police State is because they know you cant Police Poverty. Beating homeless people with a stick does nothing. You'll have hate and Terrorism. You cant solve Poverty with Violence. Australias Corrupt :) I told yas.
