National Cabinet is set to sign off on the creation of aged care rapid response centres across the country in a bid to get ahead of a potential new wave of coronavirus in nursing homes.

The bodies would be similar to Victoria's aged care response centre, bringing together federal and state emergency management, the ADF, and various medical experts.

The move follows extensive discussions between state, territory and federal leaders about what could be learned from Victoria's second wave. Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday apologised for the failures of the aged care system in its response to COVID-19. But he hit back at claims the commonwealth failed to have an adequate response plan in place. Image: AP

Companies test antibody drugs to treat, prevent COVID-19Companies are testing what may be the next best thing to a vaccine: drugs that deliver antibodies to fight the virus right away, without having to train the immune system to make them. 9News More profitable for the drug companies this way. I would rather my body immune to it. COVID19 coronavirus vaccine might not be the magic bullet. Victorian council elections likely to be postponed amid COVID-19 risksEven if stage four restrictions are lifted as planned in mid-September, stage three limits prevent candidates convening or attending meetings in open spaces or private residences, doorknocking and attending community events. We already conduct most local council elections by mail - why do they need to be postponed? If the US Presidential Campaigns can be held largely by virtual means, I’m sure the people who look after rubbish collection can do the same. Why the corona virus vaccine is useless at this moment?
