Older Persons Advocacy Network Chief Executive Craig Gear has told Sky News the Morrison government’s multi-billion-dollar boost to aged care is pleasing but there needs to be a “commitment to transparency”.

5min

The Morrison government is expected to deliver a massive boost in funding for the aged and childcare sectors in the upcoming budget on Tuesday night. The government will unveil a $17.7 billion cash injection for the aged care industry across four years, while also providing a full response to the recent Aged Care Royal Commission recommendations. “It’s pleasing that there’s been significant commitment to investment but there needs to be commitment to transparency as well.

The word 'commitment' isn't factored into Budget2021 at all. 'Announceables', 'lies', 'pork barrel', 'saying whatever they can to buy the election' ... THOSE words best describe it. 'Commitment?' None of that in there ...

Whatever they do it'll be like putting a band aid on a cracked plastic wall with just enough funding to attempt to get themselves re-elected

Any additional funding better NOT go to the pockets of aged care owners for their third Lamborghini & their fourth beach house in Byron Bay. Mandate funding MUST BE SPENT ON OUR FAMILY MEMBERS IN AGED CARE!. ScottMorrisonMP JoshFrydenberg AlboMP JEChalmers RichardMarlesMP

Morrison government’s aged care package ‘lacks transparency’ | Sky News AustraliaShadow Aged Care Minister Clare O’Neil has criticised the Morrison government’s $18 billion aged care package for lacking “transparency” across a range of issues. \n\n“Just one example is the government has given a $10 increase per bed per day to aged care providers - it's $3.2 billion of that overall package - with essentially no strings attached,' she said.\n\n“Now there’s no reason for aged care providers to spend that on care which is what it should be spent on.'\n\nMs O’Neil told Sky News she was also concerned about how the “moderate” increase to the number of care minutes would be handled. \n\n“I’ve already heard stories of aged care providers saying that they’re going to count the time that a cleaner is in a resident’s room as care minutes,” she said. \n\n“Unfortunately, if we take this approach to aged care in Australia where essentially we’re not willing to crack down on dodgy providers we’re never going to see the type of change that we want to see.\n\n“That was what the government’s proposal put forward, a whole bunch of additional dollars going to providers essentially with no strings attached and I just don’t think that’s the right approach.' \n ClareONeilMP Come on nothing the government does is transparent ClareONeilMP Why would the LNP demand transparency and accountability from their donors. That extra money will help them buy bigger mansions and newer foreign cars. I hope you didn’t think it would go to the residents of the facilities. I mean what’s wrong with a sausage roll for dinner. ClareONeilMP Transparency is something Morrison has been devoid of at every level. He hates it because it exposes failures by him and ministers at every level, especially to do with Coronavirus he's essentially left that to states and managing procurement of vaccines has been a shambles

Morrison government 'needs to have the guts to slash waste': Alan Jones | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Alan Jones says 'the government is going to have to have the guts to slash waste' to reduce the budget deficit but it must be done without the 'lazy growth model' of relying on immigration as a fiscal stop-gap.\n\n'Spending is now 26 per cent of GDP. The Government has committed to revenue, correctly, at 23.9 per cent. That gap has to be closed,' he said.\n\n'Three ways to do it. Increase taxes. Slash spending. Or grow the economy. The last may be the only acceptable option. What we need government to tell us is how that's going to happen.\n\n'You mean with chaos and traffic congestion and kids being educated like battery hens in high-rise towers, are we going to really return to population expansion at a rate of another Canberra every year? \n\n'This is surely a lazy growth model, which seems to believe that throwing up apartment blocks and shopping malls with the highest rate of population growth of any developed country in the world – this won't get us out of trouble, it will create more trouble.' Alan Jones should stick to rogering his butler Love all the lefties that suffer from Allan Jones syndrome ! Sky News is the straight out fair Dinkum truth. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Morrison government using the budget to ‘cover their political tracks’ | Sky News AustraliaLabor MP Peter Khalil has accused the Morrison government of using the 2021 budget to “cover their political tracks” and criticised it for having a “lack of vision” when it comes to investing in Australia’s future economy. \n\n“It’s very political, there’s a lot of spending in areas to cover over the problems they created,” he said.\n\n“Over eight years there’s been cuts to aged care and women’s health. Scott Morrison oversaw much of this - he cut aged care himself.\n\n“So they created all these problems, now they’re trying to cover their political tracks effectively with a budget.\n\n“What gets me about this is the lack of vision in looking at investing in Australia’s future economy, looking at the structural reform necessary for long-term gains.' \n\nMr Khalil said more work needed to be done through further investment in education to provide the unemployed with the skills needed to enter the workforce. \n\n“There’s a missed opportunity by Josh Frydenberg to actually invest in areas or sectors in the economy that will actually grow the economic pie … so you increase the tax base so you can tackle the debt and deficit down the track”. \n PeterKhalilMP PeterKhalilMP PeterKhalilMP
